Come ben dichiarato nella rubrica 112 degli Statuti la costruzione di fonti nel territorio per esigenze necessarie agli abitanti, precede cronologicamente di molto il lavatoio in questione. Per la sua posizione utile a raccogliere le acque che discendevano dagli Appennini, ha assolto alla sua funzione primaria, cioè quella di permettere alle donne di lavare i panni senza allontanarsi dalle proprie abitazioni, funzione protratta fino alla fine degli anni sessanta del secolo scorso. Oggi riprende vita grazie alla Festa degli Statuti quando le sue vasche vengono nuovamente riempite d’acqua come nei tempi andati e tornano a risuonare le risate e il chiacchiericcio delle donne.

MUNICIPAL WASH
Walking along the characteristic Via delle Rughe to the right of the entrance door, we can find the source of the washhouse built in the 19th century, close to the castle walls. As clearly stated in section 112 of the Medieval Statutes, the construction of springs in the area for the needs of the inhabitants happened before the washhouse. Due to its useful position to collect the waters that descended from the Apennines, it fulfilled its primary function, that is to allow women to wash clothes without leaving their homes, a function that continued until the end of the sixties of the last century. Today it comes back to life thanks to the Festa degli Statuti when its tanks are filled with water again as in past times and the laughter and chatter of the women return.
