La chiesa cinquecentesca sorge nel cuore cittadino, nell'Arengo Maggiore, la piazza anche politica per tutto il medioevo, luogo d'incontro dei capifamiglia, di declamazione delle leggi, di proclama ufficiali, di adunanze e punizioni. Un tempo però non avremmo visto forse nulla più di una cappella dedicata a San Sebastiano. È solo nel XIX secolo che la struttura assume l'aspetto attuale, dato che la chiesa attuale fu costruita a più riprese tra il 1600 e il 1800, fino a divenire Pievania nel 1871, inglobando in maniera considerevole la piazza e innalzandosi sopra i locali delle antiche carceri pontificie. San Sebastiano è il Patrono del Comune di Fossato di Vico e si celebra ogni 20 gennaio.

CHURCH OF SAINT SEBASTIAN
The sixteenth-century church stands in the heart of the city, in the Arengo Maggiore, the square which was also political throughout the Middle Ages: a meeting place for heads of the families, for declamation of laws, official proclamations, rallies and punishments. In the past, however, we might not have seen anything more than a chapel dedicated to Saint Sebastian. It was only in the 19th century that the structure took on its current appearance, given that the current church was built several times between 1600 and 1800, until it became the pastor’s house in 1871, considerably incorporating the square and rising above the premises of the ancient papal prisons. Saint Sebastian is the Patron Saint of the Municipality of Fossato di Vico and is celebrated on January, 20.
