GARIBALDI SQUARE
Piazza Garibaldi at the north end of the castle is dominated by the Monument to the fallen of the two world wars. For the inhabitants of Fossato, this square is called Portanova, where the round tower of the Girone once stood and later on demolished at the end of the 19th century. The square offers visitors a view of the underlying Via Filippo Venturi, the Roman Hellvillum, behind which is the small hill of Aja della Croce on which stood the temple dedicated to the Goddess Cupra, 2nd century BC, and whose remains were found in the mid-1800s.
